Batteries and Battery Care
The batteries fitted to your scooter or wheelchair are one of the most important components and one of the easiest to damage if not maintained properly.
The following guidance is accepted as good practice and realistic expectations:
- Well maintained batteries will last 2 to 3 years (we have many customers who have experienced 5 years by following a good battery care regime).
- When not using your vehicle, always charge the batteries every month as a minimum and ideally weekly.
- Charge your batteries daily when using your vehicle.
- Charge fully. At least until the green light on your charger shows.
- Large batteries may need over 10 hours charge.
Please check your Owners Manual / Service Manual for correct battery maintenance instructions.
- The battery manufacturer MK recommends: “Batteries love being charged. Charge regularly and fully”
- Lithium battery packs (found mainly on small folding scooters and electric bikes) must be charged when the ambient temperature / Battery pack temperature is above 10ºC. This may require charging your Lithium battery pack indoors in cold weather.
- When your battery charge indicator on your vehicle starts to show low charge remaining after your ‘usual’ length of journey, it is advisable to seek advice regarding the condition of your batteries.
